The reunion was a success, thanks to all of YOU!!!
It was great to see so many of you, and have such great memories come flooding back.

I am so thankful to the reunion committee. It was amazing how DeLaina and I started with the two of us, and then came Kami, Amy, Jenn, and Troy. Each person was PERFECT for their particular job. It is really neat to look back, and see how it all fell into place. So much work went into the reunion that was behind the scenes.

Good luck to the new reunion committee, Kerry Phillips was voted to be the new head! :)
It is a very rewarding experience to see it all come to fruition.

After hearing from quite a few classmates who need a little more time to make arrangements for the reunion, we have extended the early bird registration until July 8th.

This means you still have a few days left to send in your registrations at the $50 per person price, so follow the online directions in the previous post, or mail them in quickly to take advantage of the extension.

After July 8th, the price will be $60 per person.

We can't wait to see everyone, so mark your calendars and send in those registrations today!!!

Granger High School Alumni Association sponsors winter clothing drive

Granger High School administrators advised the Alumni Association Board of a tremendous need for coats, shoes and boots during this winter season. Faculty and administration confirmed there are numerous students who do not have these basic clothing needs at their homes. For example, one teacher surveyed her students and discovered 10 people who lacked winter coats, shoes or both.

We encourage all Granger High School Alumni Association members and other friends of Granger High to participate in this clothing drive. By working together, we will make a wonderful difference for these students with very real needs. We request the following donations:

Coats -- New or gently used. Many times we purchase new coats during this season and the old ones linger. If you find yourself in this situation, please consider this donation. If you have the means to purchase a new coat, we would truly appreciate your generosity.

Shoes and Boots: These need to be in good condition to protect the student’s feet during this winter season.

Cash/Checks -- Money donations will be used to purchase new items for the needy students. There is no administrative overhead, so 100% of the donation will benefit the intended students. We will accept any donated amount but suggest a donation of $20. Please specify the Alumni Clothing Drive.

GHSSA is a non-profit charitable organization.

Checks should be made payable to the Granger High School Alumni Association or GHSAA and should indicate Alumni Clothing Drive on the Memo line.

20th Reunion DATE Update

Lisa, Jenn, and DeLaina met last week to discuss a possible date for the reunion.
Based on the information sent to us from the surveys, the first part of August 2009 held the majority of the votes. We are going to try to stay with that. Other things that were decided from the surveys:

Local: Hotel Downtown SLC
Day: Friday Night or Saturday Night / only one night.
No Time Capsule

We will let you know of anymore updates. Please remember to turn in any info that you may have on former classmates to Kamie Taylor Latimer. We want as many '89 classmates invited to the reunion as possible.

Hello, '89 Lancers! Just a quick update on the date of the 20 year reunion. All of the surveys have been turned in and calculated. The first week of September, DeLaina Cales Tonks, Jenn Hill Free, and I (Lisa Foster Wilson) are meeting to nail down a date. As soon as it is decided, you will get an email and the blog will be updated.

Thank you to all of you who are 'finding' people. It is a HUGE job. It could not be done without your help!

Hi all. I spoke to my friend Rebecca last night and she said she had gotten word that James Taylor died yesterday. I haven't yet heard this confirmed but wanted to let you know... So, so sad to have to add yet another name to the list of deceased '89 GHS grads. :(

Yes, it is confirmed, James has passed away from his injuries on Friday, July 4, 2008.

Fellow GHS '89 Classmate Needs Our Help

Hi everyone. I want to first thank Lisa for adding me to the blog so I could post this message to you all.

As I was watching the news yesterday afternoon, they had an update on the helicopter crash survivor and they showed a picture. I immediately recognized our former classmate, James Taylor (he looks exactly the same!). I'm adding the link to the Deseret News article which tells the story and where I got his picture. http://www.deseretnews.com/article/1,5143,700239971,00.html

James has 3 children and is in critical condition. Amazing that he survived at all--the other 6 individuals involved in this accident died. His friends/colleagues at St. Mark's & IMC have set up a fund at Zions Bank to which anyone can donate to help his family cover medical expenses.

I just wanted to pass this along to all of you. Lisa and I have talked about the sadness we feel each time we hear of an old friend/classmate who has died, and there have been more than we ever imagined! It would be nice if we could help James and his family, even if just a little.

Hello! We are thrilled to announce that the reunion committee is up and running, and we need your help AND input! As people sign up for committees, we will update the blog so you know what's still available.

Each committee will have a chair and committee members assigned to specific tasks within the committee. Here are the various committees available on a first come, first served basis, and please let us (DeLaina Cales Tonks delainatonks@comcast.net and

1.Logistics: Physical Facilities/Entertainment/Food/Theme/Decor/Awards
Chair: Jennefer Hill Free
Committee Members: Troy Muir, Laurie Ramirez, Dallas Robbins, Kandi Prickett, Taucia Kisner Jensen, Brandon Stout

Description:
a. find a place
b. determine food (buffet/sit down, menu, bar options etc.),
c. book a band (and schedule the Madrigals to sing a couple of songs: “Remember” at the end of the evening, and maybe one other song?)
d. come up with some themes to run by the group, and do decorations that go with said theme,
e. determine a price per person based on cost of venue etc.
f. after we get the surveys in, determine award categories and winners for who lives the farthest away, highest # of kids, married the longest/shortest, changed jobs most, etc.
g. Set up In Memoriam table and memory books for friends to sign (work w/PeopleFinders to get pictures and verify info)
h. find sponsors and door prizes

Considerations: Amy liked the buffet-style b/c people could mingle, suggested an in-house bar so people won't have to go off-site, and rooms available if people want to make a weekend of it.

Description: ***Check the Found Column on the blog before beginning the search so you aren't tracking down people we have already found.***

a. Start finding people you know and e-mailing their contact info to
Lisa (wilson6ohana@yahoo.com) and DeLaina (delainatonks@comcast.net ). We will update the blog as you find them. We'll find as many as we can that way, and then this committee will need to split up the database and start finding people online, and should probably sign up for an internet service to help locate as many people as possible.
b. Design a survey/profile thing that people can fill out (come up w/info & questions to be included, such as married, kids, education, etc.) online, on the blog, and have that info e-mailed to Lisa and DeLaina.
(Other Info to include: Name, Address, E-mail!!!, Married/Single, Education, # of kids, Job/Career, if we can publish their info in a directory, Contact Info for anyone they have kept in contact with that we don't already have, and ask if they have HS pix they could scan and e-mail in for a slide show.)
c. Create a database of all 522 graduating seniors, update w/all contact info as we get it, and set up e-mail blast through MailChimp.
d. Print/Mail postcards to those whose e-mail addresses we can't find (If anyone has any printing connections, speak up!!)
e. Put together a .pdf directory for alumni so we can e-mail it to everyone whether or not they can attend. Make a few paper copies available for non-tech savvy alumni.

3. Photography/Tech
Description:
a. Sr. Photo Name Tags
b. posed photographs at the reunion
c. candid shots at reunion that can be added to slideshow DVD
e. Put a DVD together of HS pix/'80's music to show at reunion, possibly take orders for copies if alumni would like one
f. If we decide to have a Web site, we’ll need someone to design and maintain it
g.Help PeopleFinders committee design online survey and keep it functional

Considerations: Some reunions have a photographer set up to take pix of the couples and a group shot...if do we want to do that. Will need to get info from PeopleFinders database.

4. Finance-two people please
Description: Be responsible for the money that comes in, setting up an account for GHS1989 Alumni, paying bills etc.

Considerations: Some costs will be incurred up front and you'll have to be reimbursed. (Money can be sent to PO Box 631 Draper, UT 84020, DeLaina will input info for who has paid into the database, and then hand over the $$ to the finance team.)

It is good to have our own place!
Granger High holds SO many wonderful and FUN memories for me! I can't think of a better experience or better people to have shared it with! I can only hope that someday my children can look back on their high school career with as much fondness as I do!

Can you believe it's been almost 20 years? A few of us (Lisa Foster Wilson, DeLaina Cales Tonks, Lee Kinikini, Jeff Jordan) have been trying to find as many GHS friends as possible, especially since next year will be our (gulp) TWENTY YEAR REUNION!!!
